Mismanagement of time has really caused a lot of mayhem, carefully read this article to discover how to manage time effectively – step by step guide.

Time is precious and it waits for no man, your ability to manage time could either cause headway for you or retrogression.

Time management is the judicious use of time to accomplish a task, it entails planning and controlling time. Any business or organization without an effective time management system is bound to go extinct and it won’t stand the taste of time.

Effective time management could lead to more productivity with less time thus giving you more time for a job and your personal engagements as well.

It could relief anxiety; you wouldn’t have to worry much when you’re completing tasks within allocated time, it could give you opportunities to do other things you didn’t plan doing.

You’ll also have good reputation with people and more tasks can be entrusted to you. On the contrary, not managing one’s time in an organization can lead to stress/fatigue, missed deadlines, poor work quality etc.

How to Manage Time Effectively – Step by Step Guide

Below are guides for effective time management.

Set Realistic Goals

Set goals that are attainable and that can be achieved within the time frame. These goals would give you a foundation and framework to work with.

Prioritization

Make a task list in order of preference or importance and make sure to work on the most important & most cumbersome tasks first before giving time to the less difficult and less important ones.

Concentrate on One Task at a Time

Taking on more than one task simultaneously will end up wasting your time because you can’t hold two things while climbing a ladder.

It is best to focus on one task for increased productivity. Also when carrying out a particular task allocate specific time which you want to use because it will help foster the process.

Set Limits for Tasks

This helps to story focused, when you realize you have less time to spend on a task, you’ll put in energy and make sure the task is completed within that time and avoid distractions.

Avoid Distractions

People get so engulfed in electronic media that they don’t know how much time pass by; waste of time. A buzz from a phone or messages flying on social media is a great distraction that should be avoided while handling a task.

It is always best to silence phones and put off internet connection if you want to achieve your goals.

Be Organized

Organized your workspace, arrange documents in files, this makes it easily accessible and reduces the risk of it being misplaced and thus saves time.

Being organized is very important even in your personal hygiene, its quite unfortunate when some people stand two (2) hours searching hair comb which they misplaced.

For instance, the person was supposed to go for an interview that morning imagine the time already wasted and how tensed and uncoordinated they could be.

Plan Ahead

Having a calendar of activities can help in effective time management. Before starting any task, it is important to plan for it because failure to plan will lead to mismanagement of time.

Take Breaks when Necessary

When you feel stressed out or tired, it is best to take breaks. You can cool off on a drink, freshen up, talk a walk or even a nap; anything to make you more relaxed and at ease.

Find Some Inspiration

Working on something maybe boring and when bored, you won’t be able to concentrate and it reduces productivity.

Inspire yourself, listen to people with more experience and learn from them.

Delegate Task

Don’t try to be the boss alone, assign less important tasks to others, this gives you more time to focus on the most important tasks and reduces your workload. Delegating is a real time saver.
